TUESDAY 15 MAY saw photographers around the world, both professionals and amateurs, turn their lenses on subjects of their choice to take a picture for inclusion in a worldwide project.
Organisers of Aday.org have now released a sample of those submissions as a preview to what might be included in a forthcoming exhibition and book . All 100,000 submissions will be posted online in the last week of June, forming what’s being called the “biggest searchable online picture archive of its type”.

"On 2 April, my father Jesus Ramirez (74) was hospitalized in the Intensive Care unit of the Hospital Infanta Luisa in Sevilla, Spain because one of his metal heart valves implanted in 1989 had dislodged itself from the heart causing internal bleeding. Less than one week later he would undergo his third open heart surgery of his life. On this day Jesus had been close to death on three occasions since, due to post surgery complications in his kidneys and lungs which were both struggling to dispose of an edema causing him breathing complications. He was not eating at all and became malnourished. Drainage to his right lung was necessary two weeks after surgery and then a blood clot formed that required surgery again. Although he could now breath, in the days that followed his conditioned worsened and respiratory failure set in. In this image after another puncture to his left lung and four days connected to a respiratory assistance Jesus has begun to breath again slowly on his own. A total now of six weeks in hospital has kept his family and him on the edge. Image: Carlos Cazalis
