Woman arrested over murder of 11-year-old Emily Barut

The girl, who was a wheelchair user and had both mental and physical disabilities, was found dead at her home in Tullamore in 2012.

A WOMAN HAS been arrested in Tullamore today as part of the investigation into the murder of an 11-year-old girl in 2012.

Emily Barut’s body was found at her home at Bachelor’s Walk in September 2012. The young girl was a wheelchair user and had both mental and physical disabilities.

Her mother, a local GP, was also found unconscious in the house.

Post-mortem results at the time were inconclusive and gardaí said they would be using toxicology results to try to determine how the girl died. Today they confirmed that a woman in her 50s has been arrested in connection with the murder.

She is currently being detained at Tullamore garda station.
