$150k raised for homeless man who returned valuable engagement ring

The donation website was set up by Bill Krejci as a gesture after Billy Ray Harris returned his fiancé’s diamond ring to her.

A TEXAS MAN who returned a valuable diamond-and-platinum engagement ring to its owner is receiving some good karma for his kind act.

A fund set up for Billy Ray Harris, who has been homeless for many years, has now raised almost $150,000.

The donation website was set up by Bill Krejci as a gesture after Harris returned his fiancée’s engagement ring to her.

Krejci’s fiancée, Sarah Darling, accidentally dropped the ring into Harris’s begging cup on Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza and did not realise until the next day what she had done.

“The ring was so big that I knew if it was real, it was real expensive,” Harris told KCTV. He brought it to a jewellers but decided not to sell it.

“My grandfather was a reverend. He raised me from the time I was six-months-old and thank the good Lord, it’s a blessing, but I do still have some character.”

Darling said she will be “eternally grateful” that he still had the ring when she returned the following day. “It seemed like a miracle. I thought for sure there was no way I would get it back.

“I think in our world we often jump to like the worst conclusion, and it just makes you realize that there are good people out there.”

More than 6,200 people have donated to Krejci’s GiveForward campaign, with 79 days still remaining.

“Billy Ray and I got together for an hour or so yesterday afternoon,” wrote in a blog post on Saturday. “We talked about what he’s planning to do with the donations. The details would be better left for later but know that he has a very solid plan and a very solid way of making it happen.”
