Both sides in Aer Lingus row accept Labour Court plan (...and holidaymakers breathe a sigh of relief)

Detailed negotiations between staff and management are expected to take place over the next few weeks.

BOTH AER LINGUS management and the Impact trade union have accepted an interim Labour Court recommendation aimed at settling a long-running dispute at Aer Lingus.

The new proposals were issued this morning after representatives from unions and the airline met for talks at the Labour Court yesterday to discuss the row, which centres on rostering patterns

Strikes that had been scheduled to take place next Monday and Wednesday were called off last night to allow the two sides to consider today’s recommendation.

In a memo to members of the IMPACT cabin crew branch, chairperson Angela McNeela and assistant general secretary Michael Landers said they believed the Labour Court recommendation “forms a good basis for the settlement of the issues in dispute and we will pursue this vigorously in detailed negotiations with Aer Lingus over the coming weeks”.

The union said it would shortly schedule a series of general information meetings for members at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports.

Aer Lingus said in a statement that it accepted the recommendations and would begin to implement them.

“We apologise to our customers most sincerely for the inconvenience and uncertainty created by the recent industrial action,” the statement said.
