Old ammunition made safe by army bomb disposal team in Dublin

The badly corroded projectile was found during river drainage works and is thought to have been in the location for a considerable period of time.

AN ARMY BOMB Disposal Team made safe an old piece of ammunition found by engineers doing river drainage works in Stillorgan this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to the Stillorgan Grove Area following a request by Gardai shortly after 2pm.

The badly corroded projectile was found by engineers doing river drainage works and it appeared to have been in the location for a considerable period of time. The piece of ammunition was examined in situ and rendered safe for transport.

It has now been brought to a secure military location for further examination and it is expected that it will be destroyed by controlled explosion later today.

The scene was declared safe shortly after 2.30pm.
