Man arrested over the death of a mother-of-one who was found in Cork city squat

Amy McCarthy was found in the vacant premises in April of this year.

A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the death of a young mother whose body was found in a vacant premises in Cork earlier this year.

Amy McCarthy (22) was found dead in the premises on Sheares Street in Cork city centre on 30 April last.

The premises in which the mother-of-one was found had been used as a squat at different occasions in the past.

Gardaí have now said they have arrested a man in connection with Amy’s death.

The man was arrested in the midlands and is being held at Bridewell Garda Station in Cork where he can be held for up to 24 hours.

Anyone with information on the homicide or who may be able to provide gardaí with a picture of Amy’s movements in the days before she was found is asked to contact Bridewell Garda Station on 021-4943330.
