Man due in court over Aoife Phelan murder

A 24-year-old man will appear in court in Portlaoise this morning.

A MAN WILL appear in court later this morning charged in connection with the murder of Aoife Phelan, the pregnant au pair whose body was found on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old man is due at Portlaoise District Court this morning. Phelan, who was four months pregnant, went missing on 25 October.

A search coordinated by gardaí led to the discovery of a body near a house on the Timahoe Road outside Portlaoise just after 11am on Wednesday morning.

She was formally identified by her family yesterday following a post mortem examination, the results of which have not been made public.
