Appeal after woman in her 90s struck on head with a stick in handbag robbery

The attacker is described as being aged around 60 to 65 years old.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN was struck on the head with a stick when her handbag was stolen in Belfast yesterday afternoon.

The robbery happened at Aston Gardens in the Upper Newtownards Road area of the city at around 4pm.

The woman, who is aged in her 90s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The attacker is described as being aged around 60 to 65 years old, of thin build with a full face and around 5’10 or 5’11″ tall.

He was wearing a fawn or beige flat cap with a peak and a khaki or grey overcoat worn over a suit and he spoke with a Belfast accent.

Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy said, “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact detectives in Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or via the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
