Arrest made after man found dead at Cavan hospital

The elderly man, discovered this morning, was not a patient.

A MAN HAS been arrested and gardaí are investigating following the discovery of an elderly man’s body in Cavan General Hospital this morning.

An 82-year-old man was found in the psychiatric unit of the hospital at around 7am this morning. A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the death and is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Cavan garda station.

Gardaí say they are treating the death as suspicious and are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death of the elderly man who was not a patient at the hospital.

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out later today.
