Man arrested after suspected genital mutilation on two-year-old girl

A file will go to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

AN AFRICAN MAN was arrested in Dublin this week after reports that a two-year-old girl had been genitally mutilated.

Gardaí confirmed that a man had been arrested at a home in Crumlin in connection with an assault on Thursday.

He was taken to Sundrive Road Garda Station and later Crumlin Garda Station, where he was questioned.

He was later released without charge. A file will go to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Irish Mirror reports that the man is Somalian and that forensic teams had searched an apartment in Crumlin yesterday.

Sources confirmed that the assault had been on a young girl who is recovering in hospital. It is believed she had been the victim of female genital mutilation.
