Two arrested as fireworks and drug paraphernalia found in Down

A de-activated firearm was also found in the search following the arrest of a man and woman.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested overnight after the windows of a parked car on a street in Co Down were smashed.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and a number of drugs offences and a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and assault on police following the incident in the Donard Park area of Newcastle shortly before 7.30pm.

Police also conducted a search of a property in the Williams Street area of Donacloney. A number of items of drugs paraphernalia, fireworks and a de-activated firearm were seized during the search.

Both remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries. It is understood that ammunition technical officers were in attendance and a number of properties were evacuated as a precaution during the search.
