Here are some of the big name artists' paintings that sold for €50 last week

Some of the artists’ regularly reach thousands of euro for their work.

PEOPLE QUEUED DOWN the street last weekend to get a chance to potentially buy a piece of art by a well-known artist for just €50.

The Incognito art auction fundraiser for the Jack and Jill Foundation was a big hit last week, with people queuing up outside the Solomon Gallery at the Westbury Mall from 4am on Friday morning.

“It was astonishing,” Jack and Jill Foundation CEO Hugo Jellett told TheJournal.ie. “It completely wrong-footed us. The scale of the whole thing was beyond anything we expected.”

As part of the project, over 1,000 artists from around the world donated over 1,500 original miniature art pieces – selling for just €50 each.

The catch? People didn’t know which of the pieces were painted by the 50 well-known artists that make them potentially worth thousands of euro.

Here’s a selection of the pieces by well-known artists from last week’s exhibition and what their work might usually sell for.
