Garda investigation launched after alleged assault outside Dicey's nightclub

Gardaí confirmed that they are investigating an incident that took place on Harcourt Street in Dublin at about 1am on 6 June.

A GARDA INVESTIGATION is underway after an alleged assault outside a popular club on Harcourt Street on Sunday night.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Liveline this afternoon, a woman named Ger said that her son had captured footage of an altercation between a man and security staff outside Dicey’s Garden.

Gardaí confirmed that they are investigating an incident that took place on Harcourt Street in Dublin at about 1am that night.

The video taken reportedly shows two men in hi-vis jackets and one man in a black jacket – who appear to be security staff – involved in a verbal dispute with a man in a striped t-shirt.

The man appears to wipe blood from his face and throw it at the security staff.

As the video goes on, it reportedly shows the men pushing the man to the ground; one tackles him and kicks him in the chest.

He is kneed in the face and pinned to the ground by the men before being hit at least twice.

Incident

Speaking on Liveline, Victor – the manager of BC Security which provides bouncer security for Dicey’s – said that the man in the video was brought out of the club because there was “an incident inside the venue”.

[The man] wanted to get back in to get his jacket. He was told to come back at four o’clock the following day to get his coat, and he refused to take those instructions.

Victor said that he didn’t have full knowledge of the event and could only comment in relation to a video where security staff are restraining the man on the floor.

“The guidelines set out… would be security staff would use reasonable force insofar as dealing with a violent situation like that,” he said.

While he could not comment on the full video seen by Liveline, Victor said that if it appeared that security staff had breached protocol then appropriate action would be taken.

If we feel that appropriate action needs to be taken, then we will do that.
