Audi is already taking orders for its new electric SUV

The company’s first fully-electric model isn’t out until 2019.

IT WON’T BE hitting the road until some time in 2019, but Audi Ireland has already begun taking orders for its first fully electric SUV. The car was spotted cruising around the streets outside this month’s Geneva Motor Show, albeit wearing an eye-turning camouflage wrap.

The production model is based on the original e-tron concept car that was shown a couple of years ago and will be the first car to show that Audi is getting serious about EVs.

The company claims that it will have a driving range of up to 500km between charges and will provide seating for five in the typical well-appointed Audi interior.

Henning Dohrn, brand director for Audi Ireland, said:

We’ve reached a real milestone moment with this announcement as it’s the first time we will launch a fully electric model, to the Irish market.

Under the Ionity joint venture, numerous fast chargers will be added to Ireland’s EV charging network. It is part of a collaboration between Audi, BMW, Daimler (parent company of Mercedes-Benz), Ford and Volkswagen, who have committed to improving the charging network across Europe, mainly along major travel corridors.

For those looking to be among the first to get Audi’s new electric SUV, an online pre-registration page is now live on Audi Ireland’s website. Customers can place a €2,000 refundable deposit, which will then be deducted from the overall price when it is confirmed.
