Audi confirms a five-door RS 5 Sportback for 2019

Pre-orders will be available in the later half of this year.

IF YOU’VE FOUND yourself longing for Audi’s sleek RS 5 coupe design but need the extra space that a five-door hatchback offers then your wait is over.

In what is relatively unsurprising news for motoring fans, Audi recently confirmed news of an RS 5 Sportback.

Into that slinky five-door silhouette, Audi’s boffins have slipped its 2.9-litre TFSI twin-turbocharge V6 engine.

Like most of Audi’s high performance models, power is distributed to all four wheels, reaching the 100km/h point in just 4.1 seconds from a standing start. If you can find somewhere to legally do it, the car is capable of hitting 280km/h.

Visually, a few new changes set this model apart from the regular A5 Sportback.

The wheel arches are more pronounced, there’s a larger front grille in gloss black, a new rear diffuser helps channel airflow from beneath the car, and there’s a larger exhaust too.

Inside, there are still numerous practical features, such as a 480-litre boot, which can be expanded to 1,300 litres and has split folding rear seats in a 40:20:40 arrangement.

Up front, there are RS sports seats throughout the cabin, plus RS logos to remind you that you’re not in any ordinary Audi.

As yet, there is no set pricing for Ireland, but the RS 5 Sportback is expected to carry a premium over the medium-strength S5 Sportback, which is priced from €81,590.
