Australian arrest for attack on Irishman

David Keohane was seriously assaulted in 2008 attack in Sydney.

POLICE IN AUSTRALIA have arrested a fourth person in connection with a serious attack on Irishman David Keohane in 2008. The 21-year-old man was arrested at a house in Darwin, and is expected to be extradited to Sydney tomorrow on charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

The attack has left Mr Keohane wheelchair-bound.

The suspect’s name and description were issued months ago by police seeking to speak to him about Keohan’s attack. One other person has already been found guilty of the attack. In March, Thomas Isaako, 21, of Bankstown, Sydney, was found guilty of assaulting Mr Keohane and sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Mr Keohane, then 29, was found unconscious on a street in the suburb of Coogee in Sydney on 9 August 2008. He was returning home from a popular bar when he was repeatedly punched and kicked. He suffered severe head injuries and was in a coma for over 200 days. He was flown back to Ireland while still unconscious and woke after seven months in a coma.
