Woman and child struck by Jeep in Balbriggan

The mother was killed and the child badly injured.

A WOMAN IN her 30s was knocked down and killed while she was out walking with a child in Balbriggan this afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services are attending the scene of the collision, which occurred at about 12.3opm on the main Dublin Road into the town.

The child has been taken to Temple Street Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was removed to Beaumont Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area as the main road in the town is closed on the southern side and diversions are in place.
