Witnesses sought after man shot in car outside Balbriggan gym

One man has been injured and taken to hospital.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses to a shooting that occurred outside a gym in Balbriggan this morning.

A man was injured during the incident, which occurred at the Balbriggan Retail Park in the Balrothery area.

The man, aged 45, was injured after receiving two gunshot wounds to the chest. Gardaí  said that the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí said that at 11am today, a lone gunman approached the victim’s car as he drove into the retail park.

The gunman shot the man, who was in the car, a number of times. The victim was taken to Beaumont hospital by ambulance.

The gunman is described as having dark hair, and he is believed to have left the scene in a white Nissan 200 SX or a white Toyota Supra.

The gym is located in the same retail park as a play centre for children. The scene was preserved for a technical examination.
