CCTV footage catches a 4X4 pulling down the gates at a level crossing

The incident happened in Barberstown, Co Kildare.

IRISH RAIL ARE asking the public to contact gardaí with information after a hit and run driver damaged a level crossing in Barberstown, Co Kildare.

The collision has caused delays on services to Maynooth after the collision happened at 8.50am.

A video of the collision shows a large 4X4 pulling a trailer and digger through the crossing as the gates are coming down.

As it crosses the tracks, the digger catches the gates pulling them down. The driver did not stop after the crash, according to Irish Rail.

The incident had caused delays of up to 30 minutes on the line with Irish Rail crews currently working to repair the level crossing.
