Man in court over 'beheading' of woman in London garden

82-year-old Palmira Silva was attacked in her garden in Edmonton, north London, on Thursday.

A MAN APPEARED in court today charged with the murder of an 82-year-old woman reportedly found beheaded with a machete in her suburban London garden.

Palmira Silva, a grandmother who still worked at her family’s cafe, was attacked in her garden in Edmonton, north London, on Thursday.

Nicholas Salvador, 25, appeared at the court in Highbury, north London with his hands cuffed behind his back and escorted by four police officers.

He is also charged with assaulting a police officer and was remanded in custody ahead of another court appearance on Tuesday.

Police believe the incident was not linked to terrorism.

Officers discovered Silva’s body after being alerted by local residents who said a man with a knife was attacking a cat or dog.
