A MAN HAS been shot dead in north Belfast.

The incident happened at about 9.50pm at Sunningdale Gardens in the Ballysillan area of the city according to PSNI spokesman Inspector Tony Fraser.

Northern Irish first minister and DUP leader Arlene Foster has condemned the shooting, saying she is “shocked and disgusted”.

It’s understood that the shooting may relate to an ongoing loyalist power struggle, with deputy first minister Martin McGuinness tweeting to that effect.

The PSNI have appealed for witnesses to the shooting to contact them on either 101, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 1112.
