Young man spent Christmas in hospital after mystery assault

The man in his 20s does not know how he received his injuries.

POLICE IN BELFAST are investigating a serious assault which left a young man in hospital for Christmas.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was on a night out in the city centre on 12/13 December when he got separated from his friends at about 3.30am.

About five hours later, he woke up in an alleyway off University Street with serious injuries. He was brought to hospital where he remained until yesterday.

He has no recollection about how he got there or how he was injured.

Investigating officer Constable Green has appealed for anyone who was in the area in the early hours of 13 December to come forward.

At the time of the assault, the victim was wearing blue jeans, a navy-blue Christmas jumper with a hood and a penguin on the front. He was walking in the University Street area and police also want to speak to anyone who may have spotted him.
