Man (59) arrested after over 10,000 tranquilizer tablets seized in Limerick

The drugs have an estimated street value of €21,000.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a 59-year-old man following the seizure of around 10,000 tranquilizer tablets at an address in Limerick.

The benzodiazepine tablets were found in a property in the Kileely area during the course of a joint intelligence operation between Revenue, the Garda Drugs Unit and the Health Products Regulatory Authority.

The drugs – which can have serious toxic effects when taken without prescription – have an estimated street value of €21,000.

Revenue said the tablets had been sent to Ireland from Austria.

The man arrested in connection with the seizure was detained at Henry Street Garda Station under section two of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

He was released yesterday without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Investigations are continuing.
