THIS YEAR HAS been a tumultuous one for news.

From Paris to Berkeley, from Carrickmines to Tunisia, from the migrant crisis to the growth of Islamic State to the same-sex marriage referendum, 2015 was a year of upheaval across the world.

Here, in no particular order, are the most striking images from this year.
