Bike scheme on its way to Galway

It’s reported that 20 ideal locations have been pinpointed for the scheme, which could be in Galway by next summer.

TWENTY LOCATIONS HAVE been earmarked as bike stands for a scheme in Galway similar to the one operated in Dublin.

Galway Bay FM reports that the scheme is likely to be available by next summer, when the Volvo Ocean Race will bring tens of thousands of people to Galway.

Eyre Square, University Hospital Galway, NUI Galway and Salthill have all been identified as ideal locations. Galway Bay FM reports that a company to run the scheme is expected to be chosen next month.

Last month the Galway Advertiser reported that Labour councillor Niall McNelis was looking to introduce a scheme similar to the one operating in Dublin, which has been hailed as a huge success.

McNelis has met with the National Transport Authority and the Public Transport Minister to discuss the Galway scheme.
