Black Monday? Hundreds queue up for St Stephen's Day sales

Thousands of people have descended on Ireland’s shopping hubs hoping to pick up bargains.

RENAMED BLACK FRIDAY, the day after Thanksgiving is America’s biggest shopping day and it seems the holiday tradition may be making its way across the Atlantic…just a little later in the year.

The custom of Boxing Day sales has gained traction in the UK in the past few years and it seems Ireland is following suit.

For the third consecutive year, shops across the country have opened their doors on St Stephen’s Day.

Clery’s, Brown Thomas and Arnotts were among the large department stores that started their sales today. However, it was NEXT and River Island that opened their doors first – at 6am and 8am respectively.

Despite the holiday, hundreds of dedicated shoppers started queueing outside the stores this morning in the hope of picking up some bargains.
