SIX PEOPLE HAVE been rescued from a boat experiencing difficulties off the Cork coast.
The Courtmacsherry RNLI all-weather lifeboat was called out at 12.16pm today to go to the aid of a 17-foot pleasure boat that got into difficulty off Coolmain, east of the Old Head of Kinsale in west Cork.
Coxswain Sean O’Farrell and a crew of six others launched immediately and reached the boat within 15 minutes. It had encountered engine difficulties and was blown ashore at Nun’s Cove.
Two crew members, Ciaran Hurley and Dean Hennessey, secured a towline to the vessel before the lifeboat towed it away from the shoreline and subsequently brought it back to Courtmacsherry Harbour.
All six people who were on board the pleasure boat have now docked at the Courtmacsherry Harbour Pontoon. The lifeboat has refuelled and restocked to be prepared for its next callout.
Conditions at sea today were blustery.
Brian O’Dwyer of the Courtmacsherry RNLI said: “We are pleased that our lifeboat was again fast away today with our ever-ready volunteers always available, and that the rescue was carried out with great skill and precision on a dangerous coastline in today’s winds.”
Alongside O’Farrell, Hennessy and Hurley, the rest of the crew comprised Hurley’s father Michael, Stuart Russell, Denis Murphy and Mark John Gannon.
