Man's body found by Garda divers in Grand Canal

The man has not been identified. It is believed he died as a result of drowning.

THE BODY OF a man has been found in the Grand Canal, close to Harcourt Terrace in Dublin city centre.

The discovery was made by Garda divers carrying out a search for a missing man.

“The search of the canal was carried out by Garda Water Unit who located the body of the man at about 12.30pm,” a statement said.

The area is sealed off pending a technical examination.

The man has not been identified as yet, said gardaí. It is believed he died as a result of drowning.

The man’s body has been removed to the City Morgue where a post-mortem examination will take place tomorrow.

    So many have died in the canal over the years, particularly at the locks which can be quite deep. Perhaps more needs to be done to secure them from people accidentally falling in late at night with nobody around to notice or help them. It’s also difficult to tell whether those found were truly accidents or something more malicious. Very sad day for another family.
