Garda watchdog investigating death of man found in Tralee garage

The man has been named as 42-year-old Nigel Leigh.

Updated 11.31 pm

THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN is investigating the death of 42-year-old Nigel Leigh after his body was found at a garage this morning.

Gardaí in Kerry cordoned off an area of Kellihers Garage in Rathass where his body was found at about 7am this morning.

Leigh is from Foss in Killarney and GSOC say they are investigating his death because he had been in contact with gardaí last night.

According to gardaí, the man had been arrested for public order offences near his home and was brought to the local station.

Shortly after his arrival there, an ambulance was called and he was transferred to Tralee General Hospital.

On discovering his body near the hospital, gardaí referred the case to the watchdog for independent investigation.

Radio Kerry reporter Alison Nulty is at the scene where a forensics tent has been erected near the car wash. GSOC investigators are also at the scene.

An appeal for witnesses has been made with anyone with information asked to contact GSOC on 1890 600 800.
