An army bomb squad was called to the scene, after a suspect device was discovered.

A VIABLE BOMB has been rendered safe by Defence Forces experts in Cork City this afternoon.

The bomb squad were called in by Gardaí after a suspect device was found at a public park in the Boreenmanna area.

The team were at the scene for less than half an hour from 12.40pm, a Defence Forces spokesperson said.

The device was disabled without the need to a controlled explosion.

Gardaí have launched an investigation.
