Device explodes in lobby of Derry hotel which hosted PSNI event

Nobody was injured in the attack but the Everglades hotel front was badly damaged.

A HOTEL IN Derry has been badly damaged after a device was thrown into its reception area.

A man threw the device into the lobby of the Everglades Hotel on the Prehen Road in the city at around 11.15pm last night. It exploded a “short time later” according to the PSNI and luckily nobody was injured.

Hotel guests were evacuated and police carry on their investigations this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said last night that staff raised the alarm immediately and moved guests from the hotel quickly and safely.

Meanwhile, Sinn Féin councillor in the area Paul Fleming told Derry Now that those responsible needed to come forward “and explain to the people of Derry what the point of all this is”.

The PSNI held a recruitment seminar in the hotel just last Thursday.
