Boy, 5, dies after accident at his home in Cork

The boy was pronounced dead earlier today after an accident at his home near White’s Cross.

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy has died following an accident at his home near White’s Cross just outside Cork city earlier today.

Gardaí said emergency services were called to a house near White’s Cross at around 1.30pm this afternoon. It is believed a large household object – reported to be a fireplace – fell on the boy.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The scene of the accident has been sealed off pending a technical examination by gardaí and the local coroner in Cork has been notified.

A garda spokesperson said that the incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
