US rock band cancels Dublin show after sexual misconduct claims

US ROCK BAND Brand New have cancelled a scheduled show in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre this week after allegations of sexual misconduct by its lead singer.

Musician Jesse Lacey addressed the allegations in a lengthy Facebook post in which he apologised and said he had “developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex”.

The allegations include inappropriate contact with teenage girls. Rolling Stone reports that one of of them has said that Lacey “manipulated the hell out of me” and solicited nude photos from her when she was 15 and he was 24.

“The actions of my past have caused pain and harm to a number of people, and I want to say that I am absolutely sorry,” Lacey wrote in the Facebook post.

I do not stand in defence of myself nor do I forgive myself. I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past, and there are a number of people who have had to shoulder the burden of my failures. I apologise for the hurt I have caused, and hope to be able to take the correct actions to earn forgiveness and trust.

“Early on in my life, I developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex. I was scared of it, ashamed, and unwilling or unable to admit it, and so it grew into a consistent and terrible problem,” he added, before going on to say he had received professional treatment.

Following the allegations and Lacey’s response, music promoter MCD has said that Brand New are postponing their upcoming shows in the UK and Ireland, including this Thursday’s planned show in the Olympia Theatre.

“Ticket refunds will be accepted at the original point of purchase,” MCD Promotions said.
