PHOTOS, VIDEO: austerity protest outside Dáil

Hundreds of people marched on the Dáil this evening after Michael Noonan and Brendan Howlin’s announcements.

ALTHOUGH GARDAÍ COULDN’T provide an accurate estimate of numbers, it is thought that up to 1,000 people marched on the Dáil today after Ministers Michael Noonan and Brendan Howlin made their Budget 2013 statements.

Organised by the Campaign Against Household and Water Charges, protesters gathered at the Central Bank and marched to government buildings.

RTÉ reports that calls were made for a national day of civil disobedience in opposition to austerity measures.

A number of scuffles broke out between protesters and Gardaí outside Leinster House but demonstrators were quickly removed from the area.
