Burglar gangs targeted by gardaí in major crackdown

A garda spokesperson said there will be a strong focus on burglars with a high re-offending rate.

BURGLARIES IN DUBLIN are being targeted by gardaí in a major crackdown starting this week.

It comes after a wave of reports of break-ins in recent months.

Gardaí say there will be increased patrols in areas most affected by burglaries and gangs will be targeted.

A Detective Superintendent has been appointed to oversee the plan and all members of duty are being fully briefed on the burglary situation in their district and key suspects.

A garda spokesperson said there will be a strong focus on burglars with a high re-offending rate.

Senior management will be briefed on the latest burglaries trends on a weekly basis.

Community policing personnel will be used to advise residents and communities in areas experiencing an increase in burglaries on crime prevention measures.

Gardaí are also advising homeowners to protect their houses, “We would also ask the public to protect their homes by having an alarm, securing all doors and windows, and lighting up their houses even when out. These simple measures can deter burglars.”
