Watch: The bizarre moment US news network C-Span was 'taken over' by Russia Today

Russia Today is the Moscow-backed English language new network.

IN CASE YOU haven’t heard, there’s a lot of talk about Russia gaining influence over US politics of late.

Between alleged Kremlin hacking of the Democratic Party to hurt Hillary Clinton, or Russian spies apparently having enough dirt on Donald Trump to blackmail him, we’re living in unprecedented times in terms in the Moscow-Washington relationship.

It’s within that context that something truly bizarre happened today.

For about 10 minutes, US political TV station C-Span was ‘taken over’ by Russian state news channel Russia Today.

In case you’re not familiar with C-Span, it mainly broadcasts proceedings from the US Senate and House of Representatives. Think of a rolling US version of Oireachtas Report.

So it’s for that reason that what happened is especially bizarre.

While what happened may be quite funny, the tense climate in US politics has meant that C-Span are taking it quite seriously.

Releasing a statement tonight, the privately funded non-profit broadcaster said the believe the problem was “an internal routing issue”.

Basically, they think it was their own fault.

So that’s clear. For now.
