Howlin: Ex-NAMA homes part of our plan to tackle housing "emergency crisis"

Ministers are gathering for today’s Cabinet meeting, where homelessness is top of the morning’s agenda.

MINISTERS HAVE BEEN arriving for this morning’s Cabinet meeting, where the spiralling homelessness problem will be top of the agenda.

Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan will brief her colleagues on the proposals contained in ‘The Implementation Plan on the State’s Response to Homelessness’, which describes the situation as an “emergency crisis”.

It’s proposed former garda stations and former centres for asylum seekers could be used to tackle the problem. The Cluid Housing Association has suggested appropriate former NAMA properties could be used as one of a number of solutions.

Speaking on his way in to Cabinet, Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin said that NAMA had already submitted a list of properties to local authorities “many of which have now been transferred”.

“That process will continue apace,” he told reporters.
