Man arrested after 15 kilos of cannabis found in a van

The investigation is ongoing.

A MAN HAS been arrested after gardaí seized 15kgs of cannabis during a joint operation with Revenues Customs Service.

The discovery was made when gardaí attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped and searched a van at an industrial estate near Dunboyne yesterday afternoon. Cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €300,000 was seized and a man in his 30s was arrested.

The arrested man is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Ashbourne Garda Station. He can be detained for up to seven days.

The investigation is ongoing.

It is understood that investigations are continuing both domestically and internationally on the back of this seizure in relation to drugs destined for the Irish market.
