Over €1mn of cannabis seized by gardaí in two Wicklow raids

An estimated 51 kg of the drug was discovered in Newtownmountkennedy.

GARDAÍ IN WICKLOW have uncovered cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €1.02 million after searching two houses in Newtownmountkennedy.

Two men, aged 61 and 36 years, were arrested and are currently being held at Bray Garda Station.

The searches took place yesterday and involved gardaí from the national drugs unit based at Dublin Castle who seized 51 kg of the drug.

Gardaí say that the searches come following an on-going intelligence operation targeting criminals involved the supply of illegal drugs.

Separately, gardaí in Cork have seized €20,000 worth of cocaine after they stopped a car in the Blackpool area of the city. A 24-year-old man was arrested and a technical analysis of the drugs is to be carried out.

It’s the second such seizure of cocaine in Blackpool this month after a further €35,000 worth of the drug was seized in the area last week.
