Poll: Is the CAO points system fair?

Further proposals for a revamp of the Leaving Certificate have been reported this morning.

THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS will this week get their Leaving Certificate results – but it could be a slightly different exam that students will be sitting in future.

It is proposed that Leaving Cert students would still be awarded points for achieving what is currently considered a fail (30 to 39%), the Irish Independent reports, while the gap between ordinary and higher level points could be widened.

However, the points system had been criticised for promoting rote learning and lacking in critical thinking, while others believe it is fairest way of allotting college places.

We want to know what you think: Is the CAO points system fair?

Poll Results:

No (3407)
Yes (2584)
I don't know (440)
