THE US CAPITOL in Washington DC has descended into a lockdown situation for the second day in a row according to reports.

Today’s lockdown concerns the discovery of two unattended, suspicious packages at the Capitol’s visitor centre.

The situation now appears to have been resolved with traffic around the area reopening within the last few minutes.

Yesterday the headquarters of the American government went into lockdown mode after an armed man was shot by police at the entrance to the visitor centre.

The suspect, who police said was known to authorities, was hauled into custody and transported to hospital, where he underwent surgery.
