Man charged with traffic offences after cross-city high-speed van chase

The man will face charges at Dublin District Court this evening.

A MAN IN his 20s will be in court this evening to face charges following a car chase across Dublin city centre yesterday evening.

A garda was taken to hospital after the incident when he tried to stop the stolen vehicle outside the Bleeding Horse pub in the city.

The chase began when a stolen van failed to stop for Gardaí in the Kilcronan area of Clondalkin. It’s understood the van was taken earlier in the day during the course of a burglary.

The chase continued from the Clondalkin area, along the M5o, through Finglas, and into the city centre. At least 12 vehicles were involved including squad cars, motorcycles, unmarked cars and a garda van.

The injured garda had attempted to stop the vehicle as it was caught in traffic. He has since been released from hospital.

The man was arrested near St Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday evening and will this evening face charges for a number of alleged road traffic offences at Dublin District Court.
