One killed and five injured in separate crashes in Carlow and Mayo

Three people are in critical condition after a three-car crash in Mayo. Separately, a 42-year-old man died in a car crash just outside Tullow in Carlow.

ONE MAN HAS died and five people have been injured in two separate crashes in the past 24 hours.

A 42-year-old man died when the car in which he was travelling crashed at Slaneyquarter, around 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) outside Tullow in Carlow, just before 4pm yesterday afternoon. The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Separately, five people were injured – three of them seriously – in a three car collision in Mayo on Sunday afternoon.

Two men in their 20s and a 16-year-old girl who were all travelling together in one of the cars are reported to be in critical condition at Castlebar General Hospital following the crash.

A woman in her 60s who was in a second car and a man in his 70s who was in the third car were both injured in the crash. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The collision happened at around 3.45pm at Cloonturk on the Kilkelly to Knock road, roughly one mile outside Kilkelly.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding both crashes and have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact their local Garda station.
