Pedestrian killed after being hit by car in Westmeath

It happened in the early hours of this morning at Rochfortbridge. The 45-year-old died at the scene.

A MAN HAS died after being struck by a car in Westmeath overnight.

It happened at Newcastle, Rochfortbridge – around 2km off the M6 on the route to Mullingar – at around 1.20am.

The 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A section of the road remains closed this morning as forensic tests are carried out.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 9384000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any garda station.
