Woman who stopped to help man is carjacked at knifepoint

The car was found in a ditch three hours later.

A WOMAN WHO stopped to help a man standing on the roadside in Cork today had her car robbed at knifepoint.

The incident happened at about 7am this morning at the village of Grenagh. After the woman stopped to help the man, he threatened her with a knife and made off with her car.

The man drove in the direction of Mallow with gardaí describing the car as being a “dark coloured saloon-type” vehicle.

About three hours later, the car was found in a ditch on a road between Glanepane and Bweeing. A man in his early 20s was arrested a short distance away.

The arrested man is currently being held at Gurranbraher Garda Station and can be held for up to 24 hours.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching the description in the area between 7am and 10am to contact them.
