Gardaí have said there was an altercation between the man and a group of people on 17 July.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested this morning over an assault in Leitrim that left a man fighting for his life.

The serious assault occurred on 17 July, when gardaí received reports of a man lying on the main street in Carrick-on-Shannon. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying on the road. He was taken to Sligo University Hospital and gardaí said he remains in critical condition today.

The 30-year-old is understood to have been involved in an altercation with a group of people, both male and female, on the footpath of Main Street which then spilled out onto the road. A number of witnesses were interviewed and CCTV footage from the area was also reviewed.

Gardaí said a man and woman, both in their 20s, were arrested in the Leitrim area this morning in connection with the incident.
