Cash stolen in Tallaght robbery found in shopping bags in garden

One man remains in custody over the armed robbery.

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING AN armed robbery in Dublin yesterday have recovered a sum of money that was hidden in shopping bags at a garden in Tallaght.

The cash was stolen from a cash-in-transit vehicle on the Old Bawn Road Monday afternoon at about 1pm.

Three men, two of whom were armed with a shotgun and another unidentified weapon, confronted the security worker as he was making the cash collection.

They escaped in a silver Avensis in the direction of Allenton estate.

Nobody was injured in the incident and one man was arrested during a follow-up operation at a house in the area. He remains in custody.

During another search today at a property in Allenton, gardaí recovered the cash which was hidden in shopping bags in the garden of the house.

The cash is dye-stained but the exact quantity is not yet known. Notes are stained once the security box carrying them is opened unlawfully. The ink explodes to permanently mark the legal tender. Gardaí have previously asked the public to be vigilant and refuse to accept dye-stained notes.

Investigations continue.
