Price of Cecil the Lion 'killer dentist' costume increased due to demand

It features a severed lion’s head mask and bloody smock and gloves “for a gruesome, complete look”.

A HALLOWEEN COSTUME company has defended selling a Cecil the lion ‘killer dentist’ costume.

The outfit, sold on Costumeish.com, is called “Lion Killer Dentist Halloween Costume” and is described as follows:

“All Doctor Palmer wanted was to hang dead animals in his house, but what started as an obscure (if legally-dubious) hunting trip has since erupted into a brouhaha of trans-Atlantic proportions.

“2015′s most controversial killing has laid bare the rift in American and Zimbabwean attitudes toward exotic game hunting and animal conservation pitting an outraged mob against a Minnesotan dentist in a scandal sure to be remembered for a generation.”

Our Cecil Lion Killer Dentist Costume features a severed lion’s head mask, bloody smock, and bloody gloves for a gruesome, complete look.

Features:

  • Severed lion’s head
  • Smock with fake blood splatters
  • Gloves with fake blood splatters
  • Dentist tools in front pocket

The site add that, due to popular demand, the price of the costume has been raised to $99.99 (about €89). It also notes that 15% of all proceeds will go to a wildlife foundation.

Johnathon Weeks, the founder and vice president of the company selling the costume, told Time that people kept typing Cecil into Costumeish’s search engine.

“Cecil was coming up, and just like with many of the other ones, like the Ebola or the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge costumes, we see the trend from users.

Halloween is a really tricky day and you see some of the costumes come about and it’s almost like desensitizing [sic] things.

Zimbabwe is looking to extradite Walter Palmer, a US dentist who allegedly paid $50,000 (€45,000) to kill Cecil.

Do you think the costume is insensitive or do people need to lighten up? Let us know in the comments.
