Several people sustain injuries after brawl at Mullingar cemetery

One man was arrested after a fight broke out between members of the Traveller community in the Westmeath town yesterday afteroon.

SEVERAL PEOPLE SUSTAINED what are described as minor injuries after a brawl broke out at a cemetery in Mullingar yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí have confirmed there was a public order incident at the Ballyglass cemetery in the Westmeath town at around 2.30pm yesterday.

They said a number of people were involved with several sustaining minor injuries but there was only one arrest made.

It is understood that those involved are members of the Traveller community.

It is reported in some of today’s papers that gardaí recovered knives, golf clubs and hammers with over 100 members of two rival Traveller families involved in the clash.
