You've filled out your census - now it's time to hand it in

Enumerators for the national population check will be collecting the filled-in forms starting today.

YESTERDAY WAS CENSUS day. Did you fill yours out? Well, we hope you did because there’s a great big fine for not doing so.

Anyway, all that aside, the vast majority of Irish citizens will have been accounted for in last night’s national population count, which happens every five years.

Now it’s time for census enumerators across the country to pick up all the forms that they distributed.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is asking people to keep their completed forms safe and to answer the door to their enumerator when they call to collect.

That collection will start today, and will continue until Monday 23 May.

“We would like to say a big thank you to all of our enumerators for the fantastic work they’ve done to date,” said Deirdre Cullen, Senior Statistician at the CSO.

It’s a tough job and we are asking people to be as helpful as possible to the enumerators when they return to collect your form by having them ready to go.

Following collection, the census forms will be returned to Census HQ in Swords in north Dublin where they will be securely stored before being scanned over the next six months.

Once all the data has been collected it’ll be analysed and published early next year.

If you’ve any queries regarding your census form you can call the helpline on 1850 201604, or log onto www.census.ie.
